Take Me Out To the Ballfield!
Spring is here and while major league baseball is having spring training, I am much more excited about the season starting for Challenger Baseball. This is a program that is near and dear to our hearts at Green Valley. Elizabeth and I have volunteered for over 15 years now and along the way each of our sons have spent seasons volunteering as well.
Although, I must admit, I feel a little guilty calling it “volunteering”. Being a player’s buddy in the Challenger league has got to be one of the most rewarding and fun things we do each year. As a buddy, our job is simple: make sure our player has a safe and successful game. It’s about building relationships, laughing together, and celebrating every hit, throw, plate touched, and run scored—on both teams. That’s what I call fun and refreshing.
Check out our short video to meet some of the amazing people behind Challenger Baseball. Then, consider spending a Wednesday evening at the ballpark cheering on these incredible kids. Who knows—you might just end up volunteering too!
